Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.

York Railway Station is just a 10-minute walk or few minutes by car, and the Elmbank has free parking. There is also a bus stop near the hotel, with sightseeing tours going in to town.
