Weather of Biarritz

Because of its form in an amphitheater facing the Ocean, Biarritz is open to sea breezes. The winters are mild and summer heat quite bearable. This privileged climate has enabled the station under hydrothermal and climate since 1912. The wind regime on Biarritz is rather moderate and dominated by three influences: the Atlantic Ocean, the Pyrenees and a system of local breezes. The sea winds, dominant, providing moisture and cool in summer and the mild winter. Coming from the south, hot winds are generated by a fœhn effect. Indeed, the air from Spain loses moisture through the Pyrenees and warms in losing altitude. The sun is very active in Biarritz. In winter, the city is often subject to high temperatures compared to the rest of the country. The average temperature in winter is around 8 °C and around 20 °C in summer. The rainfall on the Basque coast are rarely persistent, except during winter storms. They often manifest themselves in the form of thundershowers intense and short duration.

Get around Biarritz

On foot: Biarritz is very pedestrianised, and it is easy to get around the town centre, to the beaches, and to the best spots for surfing or shopping. This means whatever your holiday needs is a short and pleasant walking distance away. However, it can be quite hilly in places.

By bus: There is an excellent bus network, including Bayonne and Anglet, and bus journeys are a flat Euro 1.20 payable in cash on the bus. Cheaper multiple journey tickets are also available, but cannot be bought on the bus. Bus 6 leaves from the airport to the centre every 15-20 minutes. There is no bus between the train station and the airport.
